Welcome to Junyan’s Academic Webpage
I am Junyan Yu, an undergraduate student at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), majoring in Chinese Language and Literature and minoring in Linguistics.
My research interests lie in Chinese dialect grammar, particularly the syntax, semantics, and pragmatics of aspect. My current work focuses on progressive and durative expressions in Shaoxing Wu, examining how the choice of grammatical forms depends on meaning, context, and different sentence types. More broadly, I am interested in how evidence from Chinese varieties can inform our understanding of language structure.
Alongside linguistics, I am also interested in Chinese literature and philology. My training in these areas has shaped my attention to textual evidence, historical context, and close analysis. I hope to bring this perspective to further research in Chinese linguistics.
This website provides an overview of my academic background and conference presentations. I welcome opportunities to exchange ideas with others working on Chinese languages and literature.
